Three indicted in fall beating Jackson County

JEFFERSON - Three Jackson County men face aggravated assault and kidnapping charges in connection to the October beating of an Athens man who they allegedly knocked unconscious, wrapped in a rug and dumped in a South Jackson County neighborhood.

A Jackson County grand jury indicted Timothy Lamar Ransom, Bob David Scott and Danny Maurice Weathers on four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of kidnapping.

Prosecutors allege the three men kicked and beat a 25-year-old Athens man with their fists and a metal pole Oct. 14 until he lost consciousness.

The men rolled the victim in a rug and dumped him along Scott Road in Southern Jackson County, according to Jackson County sheriff's investigators.

The man had several broken bones in his face and was disfigured by the beating, according to the indictment.

Prosecutors allege the trio also beat up a second man the same night, but it is unclear from court documents what his relationship is with the 25-year-old victim.

Sheriff's investigators believe both beatings were related to the drug trade in some way.
