Two blazes reported in Jackson County

Firefighters closed a section of Georgia Highway 124 near its intersection with Georgia Highway 53 for about an hour Wednesday afternoon while they fought a house fire on 9819 Davis St. in Braselton.

Firefighters arrived at home on Davis Street, also Ga. 124, about 2:40 p.m. and found the one-story home engulfed, according to Steve Nichols, emergency management director for Jackson County. Flames were coming through the roof, he said.

Firefighters from the West Jackson, North Jackson and Correction Institute fire departments, with help from Barrow County, worked for more than four hours to extinguish the fire.

No one was injured, and firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.

Jackson County volunteer firefighters also were called to 4150 Georgia Highway 332 in Hoschton about 4 p.m. Wednesday to extinguish a fire at an abandoned chicken house that had spread to some nearby woods, according to Nichols.

The fire was started by a controlled brush burn that spread too quickly, Nichols said.
